Privacy Policy for skintone.uv
Last updated: April 23, 2026
1. Overview
skintone.uv helps you protect your skin by providing personalized sunscreen recommendations based on your skin tone and real-time UV index data. This privacy policy explains what data the app collects, how it is processed, and how it is stored.
2. Face Data Collection and Use
When you use the skin tone scanning feature, the app accesses your device camera or photo library to capture or select a facial photo. This photo is used solely to determine your Monk Skin Tone level (a classification from 1 to 10). How face data is processed: • Face detection is performed entirely on your device using Google ML Kit, an on-device machine learning framework. • No facial images are transmitted to any server or third party. • The app detects facial landmarks (cheek and forehead regions) to sample skin pixel colors and compute an average color value. • This color value is matched to the Monk Skin Tone Scale to determine your skin tone level.
3. Face Data Retention
After classification, the selfie is saved locally on your device as your profile picture so you can see your most recent skin scan in the app. It is never transmitted to any server or third party — it stays only on your device. You can replace the saved selfie at any time by re-scanning your skin tone (the previous photo is overwritten), or remove all data by deleting the app. No biometric data and no face geometry data are retained — only the captured photo file and the resulting skin tone level.
4. Location Data
The app uses your device's location (latitude and longitude) to retrieve UV index data from Open-Meteo, an open-source weather API. Only geographic coordinates are transmitted; no personal information is included in these requests. Open-Meteo does not receive any identifying information from the app.
5. Data Sharing
skintone.uv does not share any personal data with third parties. • No facial images or face data are sent to any server or third party. • No third-party AI services are used. • No analytics or tracking services are integrated. • UV data requests to Open-Meteo contain only geographic coordinates.
6. Data Storage
Data stored locally on your device: • Your most recent profile selfie (the photo from your latest skin tone scan) • Your Monk skin tone classification level (1–10) and its descriptive label • Notification preferences and most-recent location cache All data is stored using standard on-device storage. No data is stored on external servers. Deleting the app removes all of it.
7. Your Rights
Since all data is stored locally on your device, you can delete it at any time by deleting the app. No account creation is required, and no data persists on any server after the app is removed.
